Week of Inspirational Maths

This week, we've been starting off our Year 3 maths right with a week of Inspirational Maths. We've had a go at lots of fun activities using shape, number, emojis... all sorts! The aim of these activities was to get our maths brains working after 6 weeks off, and to revisit some of the key concepts about maths.

We learnt:

  • there is no such thing as a maths person (and therefore, no such thing as someone who is "just bad at maths") - it is all about looking at things differently and working in a way that suits you.
  • when your brain works hard and is challenged, it grows like a muscle being exercised.
  • when you believe in yourself, your brain is more open to growing and therefore you are more successful.
  • that working together well can help your brain make more connections, because people see things in different ways.

If you're interested in finding out more about the brain science behind these ideas, Class Dojo made an awesome series of videos about growth mindset which you can watch here (via YouTube).

Have a look at some of the activities that we had a go at in our teams.
