A great start to the New Year... Mrs Gilboy has had a beautiful baby girl, mother and baby both very well indeed.
We enjoyed a visit from Steve Taylor, who has run 7 marathons in 7 days in aid of Bowel Cancer West. His assembly helped us to learn about resilience and how your mindset can help you to achieve anything.
There was a pupil takeover, as the children were invited to apply to be Headteacher for the day. This resulted in a new Senior Leadership Team (SLT), made up of children from Reception to Year 5. Their first decision - make the day an Art Day. All classes produced artwork based around the theme of the reasons, and the leadership team of pupils took learning walks, observed lessons, held and SLT meeting, ran both praise assemblies and read a story to the Nursery. See more of their day and fantastic achievements on our Twitter Feed.
Our sports teams continue to do brilliantly. The footballers and netballers both beating Sherwell Valley. The netball team's 8:2 victory securing them a place in the season final.
The Arts are a huge part of what we do here at oldway, and our dance club recently performed at the Princess Theatre. Over 50 children in Key Stage 2 attend dance club before school and their expertise and enthusiasm really shone through. We were all very proud of them, and the children in school were impressed by the high standard when we were treated to a snippet of their performance during assembly.
We continue to promote our Oldway values, but we are working on reducing them, as so many overlap. We will have 6 key values, with more information coming out in the newsletter. This month the value we are working on is resilience.
2018 promises to be a fantastic year for Oldway School and its children.
