Welcome to Year 4!
20th November 2020
In Year 4, a key focus of our maths curriculum is for our pupils to learn all of their times tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of the year. Knowledge of tables is important because it supports mathematical learning and understanding, and those children who have a strong grasp of tables tend to be more self-assured when learning new concepts. Any support and practice at home would therefore be very much appreciated!
In the run up to Christmas, we have been working on the tables which were due to be covered in Year 3 – the 3x, 4x and 8x tables. In the spring term, we will cover the 6x and 7x tables, while the 9x table will be covered in the summer term. At the end of Year 4, the children will take a test to monitor how well they have learnt them. Please see the attached government guidance for any additional information.
As a school, we have subscribed to the TT Rockstars program – login details are in your child’s reading log. The program involves motivational tasks to engage your child when learning their tables, and the Year 4 teachers can change which table is focused on each week, to support the learning in classroom. ‘Hit the Button’ is a useful web-site to use, there are lots of apps available and regular parent testing makes a huge difference!
Many thanks for your continued support.
