Welcome to 2025-26!
A very warm welcome to Oldway Primary School! We are absolutely delighted that your child will be starting their school journey with us in September, and we look forward to getting to know both you and your family over the coming months. Starting school is a very special time, and we’re so pleased that you’ve chosen Oldway to be part of this exciting new chapter.
We hope that your child is beginning to feel excited about joining our school community. We know that this can be a time of mixed emotions, but please rest assured that we are here every step of the way to help make the transition as smooth and happy as possible.
At Oldway, our school values - Aspiration, Responsibility and Kindness - are at the heart of everything we do. These values guide our learning, our relationships, and the way we grow together as a school community.
We are incredibly proud of what our children achieve here. Last year, 85% of our Reception pupils reached a Good Level of Development (GLD), and 100% of our Year 1 pupils passed the Phonics Screening Check - achievements that reflect both the dedication of our staff and the enthusiasm of our children.
Our team is experienced, nurturing, and committed to going the extra mile to ensure your child feels safe, happy, and inspired to learn from day one. You can trust that your child will be supported by staff who care deeply and are passionate about helping every child thrive.
We also believe that strong communication with families is key. We use Seesaw as our main platform for home-school communication, and our school website and Facebook page are great places to keep up with news and events. For any queries, you can also contact the school office by email - oldwayoffice@rivieraet.co.uk
We can’t wait to welcome your child into the Oldway family and begin this exciting journey together. We look forward to seeing you when term starts on Thursday 4th September.
With warmest wishes,
Emma Bamber
Head of School
ADMISSIONS
ADMISSIONS PROCESS
Oldway Primary School is a member of the Riviera Education Trust which is the admissions authority responsible for the admissions policies and decisions on applications for admission. We have an admissions policy for each academic year. They are written to comply with the School Admissions Code and School Admissions Appeals Code. We take part in the co-ordinated admissions schemes of Devon County Council.
Applying to Oldway
Once you decide you would like a place in Reception or at any other time after this, you must make a formal application. You can do this by applying to the Local Authority and not direct to the school. A fresh application must be made for children who are attending our Nursery. Applications for Nursery places are made direct to the School. Please see further information on our Nursery Admissions link below.
Parents/carers can apply for school places in Reception for September 2026 from 1st November 2025. All applications for a school place within Torbay are submitted through Torbay Admissions via an online form which can be found at: https://www.torbay.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/admissions/primary-admissions/
For the Normal Round intake into school, children are offered places to start in Reception at the beginning of the September term after their fourth birthday. Children who are admitted to a vacancy at any time after this point are called 'In-Year' Admissions.
The Local Authority
Torbay Council publishes information about admissions and its own policies to support the admissions application and appeals process. This is at https://www.torbay.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/admissions/
Applications can be made online at: https://www.torbay.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/admissions/primary-admissions/primary-applications/
The appeals process is detailed at www.devon.gov.uk/school-appeals
