Dear Parents and Carers of Year 6 pupils
We have been asked to share information about The Big Step Summer Transition Programme, which is running locally this summer to support pupils moving from Year 6 to Year 7.
Please note: This programme is organised and delivered by an external company (The Big Step) and is not run by or organised through Oldway Primary School. We are simply sharing the information with families as it may be of interest.
The programme will take place at the following Torbay secondary schools:
Paignton Academy – 10th–14th August 2026
Brixham College – 3rd–7th August 2026
St Cuthbert Mayne School – 3rd–7th August 2026
KEVICC (King Edward VI Community College) – 3rd–7th August 2026
The Big Step is a one-week, activity-based transition programme designed to help children:
Build confidence and self-esteem
Make new friends
Become familiar with their new school environment
Meet staff and learn routines
Develop teamwork and resilience ahead of September
Cost: £130 for the week, with a £20 deposit to secure a place. Discounts may be available for families whose child is eligible for, or has previously received, Free School Meals (please contact The Big Step directly for details in this.
