7th March 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected death of Amanda Coote, a much-loved and well-respected member of our school community and Oldway's local standards board of governors.  She will be very much missed by all who her knew her.

Expression of Interest in the Role of Co-Opted (Safeguarding) Governor at Oldway Primary School

We have a vacancy on Oldway’s Local Standards Board for a Co-opted Governor and I am writing to invite parents and carers to put themselves forward – or encourage applications from within our local community - for consideration to serve as a governor on the Local Standards Board for Oldway Primary School within Riviera Education Trust.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who adheres to the seven principles of public life that will be able to commit to investing time at Oldway to support the strategic leadership, management and improvement of the school. This important, interesting and rewarding role involves visiting the school each term during a regular school day to monitor standards, as well as attending termly governor meetings (usually in the evenings) and relevant training. Governors are also encouraged to attend and be involved with community events at the school, like the summer fair, Christmas Market and Year 6 Leavers’ Celebration.

Co-opted governors need not have worked within a school setting or previously been involved in school governance but should be able to show a commitment to education, be confident to communicate and ask questions, be able to think strategically, be professional in their manner and demeanour and play an active role in the local community. Workplace and charity work skills are very relevant and transferable. We are particularly seeking expertise within safeguarding and family support so that the successful appointed governor would take on the role of Link Governor for Safeguarding. Those working within health, social care, Children’s Services, early years or education would have excellent, relevant, transferable skills for this role.
